How to calculate gallons needed:
- Measure length x width of all surfaces to be coated
- Add all numbers for total area in square feet
- Divide total sq. ft. by 25 for LizardSkin® Ceramic Insulation or for LizardSkin® Sound Control to calculate gallons needed.
- So, area to be coated (Sq. Ft.) divided by 25 equals number of gallons needed.
- Example: 75 sq. ft divided by 25 = 3 gallons of LizardSkin needed
Note: If spraying LS CI on both interior and exterior floor, spray 20 mils (1/2 millimeter) on interior floor, and 20 mils (1/2 millimeter) on exterior floor to achieve 40 mils (1 millimeter) total. Recommended LS CI thickness: 40 mils (1 millimeter). Recommended LS SC thickness: 40 mils (1 millimeter)
Typical Uses
LizardSkin® SC is being used by custom car, street rod, truck builders and RV owners who want to reduce unwanted noise and/or enhance the sound of their high end audio systems. It is best applied by special spray gun to a clean and dry primed or painted rust-free surface. Typical applications include firewalls, floor pans, transmission tunnels, doors, hoods, trunk lids, under headliners, inside fenders, panel van walls and other areas which generate vibration and noise. It may be painted if desired, with no loss of acoustic performance.
Important: Manufacturers Recommendations
For best results, LizardSkin® SC should be applied with a recommended spray gun/nozzle at 50-70 psi air pressure. For specific recommendations, consult product label. Brush application is recommended only for small areas or touch up.
Applying LizardSkin® Ceramic Insulation & LizardSkin® SC
For maximum sound control and insulation performance, both LizardSkin coatings may be used, but it is important that LizardSkin® SC always be applied FIRST. When used in tandem, LizardSkin® SC should be applied at least 12 hours prior to application of LizardSkin® Ceramic Insulation. |
Typical Tools Required:
- LizardSkin® Super Pro spray gun kit
- Variable speed 3/8-1/2 electric drill
- Box cutter or knife
- Compressed air source: 50-70 psi @ 5 cfm(min)
- Access to water for cleanup
Surface Preparation
Surface to be coated must be clean, dry and free of rust or other corrosion. Mask areas not intended to be sprayed since coating will adhere to any unmasked area. Steel surfaces require primer. Aluminum and stainless steel do not need primers but must be clean and dry.
Product Preparation/Mixing
LizardSkin® SC should be mixed thoroughly using a power drill with the mixer paddle bit.
- Open the container using the tear tab on the side of the top.
- Pull tab and remove lid.
- Mix LizardSkin® SC using variable speed drill and stir paddle bit at low rpm (300 or less) to a smooth consistency. (Normal mix time less than one minute)
- Clean stir paddle in water bucket immediately after mixing. Replace lid on bucket until ready to spray.e: Slight separation of coating is normal due to temperature changes and natural settling tendencies. Some additional mixing time may be needed if separation has occurred.
