Insulate Garage Door Against Heat
July 28, 2022We’ve been hit in Houston, Texas, with extreme heat this summer. We’re talking 100˚F highs for the last 40+ days. To combat those sweltering temps, we put our heat shield product to the test: an un-air conditioned garage door. We used 2 gallons of LizardSkin Ceramic Insulation per door doing the recommended 2 coats at 20 mils (.5mm) each. It took us about 2.5 hours for first coat with prep work (taping and masking, scuffing door with Scotchbrite, cleaning areas scuffed with a vinegar solution) and 1.5 hours for second coat with clean up.
Here are the results of our test to insulate a garage door:
Prior to using LizardSkin Ceramic Insulation to insulate the garage, usually recorded 3-5˚F ABOVE ambient inside garage.
After spraying on LizardSkin Ceramic Insulation, we’re seeing 7-12˚F BELOW ambient.
